As Lead Music Practitioner with Heavy Sound, Gavin works with groups who face barriers to learning & inclusion, primarily young people who've experienced trauma. H.S help people reengage through projects using hip-hop, rapping & DJ’ing.

Gavin spent several years working closely with Sanna on their debut album.  Recorded live in their rehearsal room the album was lovingly and gently mixed and mastered by Gavin before being taken to Precise Mastering to be cut.

Gavin was asked to design the sound for 'Remembering Those' by Duncan Kidd which was performed at Edinburgh Castle on 15th November 2018 at a Veterans First Point & A Sense of Belonging event to mark the Centenary of Armistice day.

Gavin was asked to provide MIDI and sound support for the Red Note Ensemble's performance at The Lammermuir Festival.

Jacqui Dankworth

Gavin was asked to provide live sound engineering services for Jacqui Dankworth and acclaimed American pianist-vocalist, Charlie Wood's UK tour when it stopped off in Edinburgh this August.

Meadows Festival 2018

Gavin provided support for the young people performing, sound engineering and stage managing the Futures Stage at The Meadows Festival.

the western revue

Artlink hired Gavin to digitise these two fascinating records. The Revue became a tradition in the 1960s. Performers included nurses, junior doctors, radiographers, pharmacists, physiotherapists, porters and anyone else who could be persuaded to join in.

Wide Days 2018

Gavin returned to Wide Days this year to oversee the live production and the recording of this award winning event which continues to go from strength to strength. In 2014 it was named Best Networking Event at the Yearly Music Convention Awards and was also nominated for Best Convention Venue in 2016.

Gavin was asked to help out award winning Bharatanatyam dancer and teacher, Kirsten Newell, with some music for her latest performance.

Dr Korczak’s Example

To mark the beginning of Scotland’s “Year of Young People” (2018) and World Holocaust Memorial Day, NHS Lothian and Strange Town Theatre Company presented a performance of “Dr Korczak’s Example” by David Greig with sound by Gavin Fort.

Rock Art

Visually impaired Arts Access users found out more about prehistoric rock art this summer, with a hands-on visit to explore the collection at the National Museum of Scotland, followed by a field trip to discover ancient cup and ring marks on Tormain Hill outside Ratho. Sound artist Gavin Fort made a recording of the trip.

Dead Ends is a radio drama series developed and produced by Strange Town, working with Gavin Fort, and a team of young writers and actors. Series 1 is currently being aired on Radio Summerhall and series 2 is in the pipeline.

Stills

Gavin teaches 'Sound Recording and Editing for Artists & Filmmakers' at Stills Gallery in Edinburgh. He has also delivered bespoke training for Stirling University, Baillie Gifford and the N.H.S. He has been invited to lecture at the SAE Institute and has worked as a tutor for University of Edinburgh supervising post­graduate students.

Wide Days 2017

Gavin has been involved in Wide Days since it was launched in 2010. 2017 saw the biggest production yet and Gavin was hired to manage all the technical aspects of Scotland’s only music-business convention. Urban Word is a youth based music workshop working with a range people between 12 and 25 years of age, teaching lyric writing, recording, DJ-ing and performance.

Edinburgh Youth Music Festival

In 2015 Gavin was commissioned to plan and deliver the inaugural YMF. He worked with range of partners and stakeholders to develop a suite of workshops, opportunities for showcasing work and a platform for profiling and promoting youth music opportunities in the city. He also mentored and managed a team of young apprentices.

Gavin ran the highly successful demo project for young bands and artists at Verden Studios for several years until the studio's closure in 2015. The project helped launch the careers of bands such as The Spook School and Jamie & Shoony.
